The Experience

Welcome to the beautiful Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, Canada!

Our community of Tuwanek, just outside of Sechelt, is situated very close to the end of the road. So there is little to no traffic to disturb your time away. Be careful, you may have the best sleeps of your life out here!

Our three cabins all have incredible views of the Sechelt Inlet, and get all the afternoon sun.

Two different beaches are a three minute walk downhill and are great for swimming or launching a canoe from. The great Jacques Cousteau praised the Sechelt Inlet as one of the world’s great dive sites. The Tuwanek spit down in front of us is often abuzz with divers.

There’s oodles of hiking, kayaking and mountain biking all around, as well as plenty of events and festivals to be enjoyed. Our cabins are a perfect retreat for anyone interested in experiencing the best of British Columbia!

Our Cabins

All three cabins are beside one another on separate, but adjoining properties. Trying to find space for an extra large group? We may be able to accommodate you! High season pricing runs from the Victoria day long weekend in May, through to the Canadian Thanksgiving long weekend in October.

The Lily Pad

Nestled amongst the trees, yet still with a lovely water view, the Lily Pad has it all! Classic West Coast charm with modern conveniences and an open layout. A luxurious king-sized bed. A deck with a beautiful view. A frog pond. A hot tub. Fresh air. Room to accommodate four. What more could you ask for?

Pricing starts at $279/night plus taxes during low season.

Pets are welcome!

Crowe’s Nest

Crowe’s Nest is a Tuwanek original! Built in 1967, renovated in 2015, it has an open layout, with two bedrooms, a full kitchen, a reading nook, and a large, private deck and barbecue out front. The stunning view of the Sechelt Inlet can be enjoyed from virtually anywhere inside, or outside the cabin. In this fully self-contained cabin, four people can be accommodated comfortably.

Pricing starts at $199/night plus taxes during low season.

Pets are welcome!

Alfie the A-Frame

Our beautiful a-frame is Airbnb’s second “Most-Wishlisted” property in Canada! It has a nice open layout, with a comfy king size bed in the upstairs sleeping loft. There’s also a small balcony upstairs – a perfect spot to enjoy a sundowner! The bathroom gets plenty of natural light from a large skylight, and it features a lovely claw foot bathtub for soaking in. The cabin is fully self-contained, including its own kitchen, upstairs and downstairs decks, and a barbecue.

Pricing starts at $179/night plus taxes during low season.

Sorry, no pets allowed for this one.

The Details

The Neighbourhood

Our cabins are in Tuwanek, which was one of the original cabin communities on the Sunshine Coast! There are no street lights here, and don’t be surprised if you see kids playing on the street, or one of the neighbourhood dogs roaming freely.

The Cabins

We are always happy to meet our guests, but we tend to leave them to their own devices and try to give them as much privacy as possible.

Getting Here from Vancouver

To get to our cabins, take the ferry from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale. Crossing time is 40 mins, the schedule can be found here.

The Coastal Circle Loop

A GREAT way to get here and away while seeing some beautiful parts of British Columbia is to do the Coastal Circle Loop.

The Sunshine Coast

Here are some of our suggestions for the Sunshine Coast! Be sure to click the icon in the top left corner of the below map for control of what you want to see plotted.

Walks & Hikes

Hidden Grove: A walk through Hidden Grove is all but a must-do on a trip to our cabins. Trails range from a 10 minute loop that is wheelchair accessible, to upwards of an hour or so. Nothing is particularly difficult, and the trails couldn’t be better marked.

Activities

Mountain Biking: The Sunshine Coast is a mountain biker’s mecca! Four major areas worth trying out are the B & K Road behind Robert’s Creek, the Coast Gravity Park behind us, the trails in West Sechelt, and Sprockids park right near the Langdale ferry.

Pubs & Restaurants

We frequent the Lighthouse Pub in Sechelt, especially in the summer months – the patio has an incredible view of the Sechelt inlet.

Groceries

Our preference is to shop at Claytons Heritage Market in Sechelt.

Our Story

After over ten years together in Vancouver, working city jobs, living busy city lives, we decided it was time to make a change. So we decided to move to the Sunshine Coast. And from there we would figure out what to do with our lives. We realized pretty quickly it was the right move for us.

Our decision to start renting the second cabin on our property was immediately obvious: we had the spare capacity, and quickly needed to find a way to make a living. And just like so many other Airbnb hosts when asked “why did you get into hosting on Airbnb?”, the answer for us is the same: we got into it for the money, but we continue to do it because we love it!

So much so that when the property beside us came up for sale in late 2014, we couldn’t resist. We bought it, spent the Spring renovating it, and now rent “Crowe’s Nest” alongside our original rental, Alfie the A-Frame.

Being over here, having a little more free time, and being surrounded by many enterprising people has encouraged us to try more creative ways to make a living. Jen runs a nut-roasting company called West Coast Nuts. Gary hasn’t quite cut his ties to the city yet and works casually doing computer programming gigs to fund our travel habit. As well as the odd, local renovation job when he has time!

We do love to travel when we can. If you have any interest in reading some of our stories, feel free to take a look at Boots on the Loose. Highlights include a year travelling north to south across Africa, and more recently taking the Trans-Mongolian train across Russia!

We are very glad you found us and hope to meet you soon 🙂
